Year 1

This week in Year One:

We’ve had a lovely week, our classroom is looking very festive and fun ready for our last two weeks of term.

Today we have had a special treat visiting the school kitchen to learn what our super chefs do each day. We watched them make some biscuits and then got the pleasure of eating them. They were delicious!

Home Learning Question – Recap with an adult what you have learnt about materials this term. You could have a look at your knowledge organisers to check if you remembered everything. (If misplaced, they can be found on the Sharples Website along with knowledge organisers for all of our subjects and topics.)

In our writing lessons, the children have written a piece of work with complete independence to check their learning and they have written some lovely stories which were lovely to read! In maths, we are understanding the relationship between addition and subtraction and that they can be reversed using part part whole models to support us. We have finished our science unit this week and we just have left our end of unit quiz!

Our values certificate winner is Evelyn who got a Determined Dylan for a fantastic piece of independent writing.  Fazel and Mirha have been awarded with the most dojos in class so are this week’s Sharples Super Star. A well done to Alex too who also was awarded as reader of the week and Yusuf P for Numbots Champion. Well done everyone! Please keep doing lots of reading at home. The children are moving quickly in their phonics and learning lots of new sounds so it’s great for them to have as much opportunity as possible for them to find these sounds in their own reading time. When out and about you could encourage the children to search for sounds within words. (For example, set the challenge ‘look out for the ‘ar’ digraph’ – we sometimes do this in school and the children love to tell us what they have found!) In maths, children have access to NumBots app to support their independent learning, their passwords can be found in their reading records.

Please make sure children attend school in the correct uniform and remember no earrings for PE please. Please label all uniform and accessories. It is far easier for us to return missing items when they are named. Finally, just a reminder to bring nativity costumes into school by Monday so we can get them ready for their dress rehearsal. Thank you to those who have brought theirs into school already. We hope you have a lovely weekend.
