Metacognition at Sharples Primary

At Sharples we encourage all our children to use metacognitive strategies to help them develop their independence. When we do this we are ‘thinking about thinking’. This means we develop our own ways of acquiring and retaining knowledge, skills and understanding by considering how we learn best and making relevant connections between the things we have learned to make better sense of the world around us. This helps us to get into our ‘Learning Pit’, challenge ourselves and find our way out having made a change to our long-term memory that means we have really learned something.
