Year 6

This Week in Year Six:

What a busy week we have had in class!

In English this week we have been planning and writing our own fairy stories based on our Pathways book ‘The Lost Happy Endings’ and have been using our figurative language, dialogue to advance the action and passive verbs. In Maths we continued our learning on how to add and subtract fractions with different denominators. In Science we have been continuing our learning about Light and have carried out investigations about shadows. In PE we have been learning our dance for the topic dance through the ages and have begun to look at how to play a pocket pass in tag rugby. On Friday we enjoyed this half-term’s Aspirations Day where we learned about being a photographer. We had a visit from John Hunt Photography who talked to us about the job and showed us some equipment. We then developed our photographic skills and created our own portfolios of photographs we have taken on our iPads.

We have also had a visit from the NHS who talked to us about the effects of smoking and vaping and how to keep ourselves safe and healthy.
The Home Learning Question this: What happened during the Christmas Day truce in 1914?

Our values certificate winner is Aron who got a Curious Cora for asking lots of good questions this week. Khadijah Z and Aron have been awarded with the most dojos in class so are this week’s Sharples Super Stars. A well done to Jaiden too was awarded as reader of the week. Mohammed Y was this week’s TT Rockstars Award winner. Well done everyone!

We must stress the importance of reading at LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK. This helps to ensure your child continues to make the progress expected, by working together at home and school this can be achieved. Children have access to Reading Plus, LBQ, maths.co.uk, spag.com, Tables Table Rock Stars and NumBots to support their independent learning.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy your family time. The Year 6 team.
